A car was caught in the middle of an intense hailstorm as severe weather lashed parts of Australia on October 14.

Footage shows hailstones pelting the vehicle which was stopped at a red light on the Mulgoa-Castlereagh road on Thursday. Driver Hazel Howarth said she took shelter at the Penrith station carpark to wait out the storm before venturing back onto the road.

The ‘very dangerous’ thunderstorms blitzed Sydney and New South Wales on Thursday, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

They said the inclement weather brought large hailstones, flash flooding, and strong winds across western Australia, leaving several suburbs without power.

The BOM said the weather system has weakened, but warned of possible localised thunderstorms in storm-battered areas.
