Fishermen freed a whale shark that had gotten stuck in trawler nets in southern Thailand.

The men were at sea when they noticed the sea creature moving within the nets in Satun province on November 2.

Upon seeing the whale shark, the group dived into the water and tried to push it out.

They persisted despite the marine mammal’s weight, pushing the large animal through the net until it was finally released.

Fisherman Ahmad Chadsun said: ‘Watching the whale shark swim free was worth the effort we put in together.

‘We were happy to see the whale shark in the trawler net as it was an indicator that the Thai sea is abundant with beautiful animals.’

Whale sharks are endangered and classified as a threatened species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.
