Footage shows the Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) in Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday December 8 as Covid-19 cases fall and restrictions ease despite Omicron variant fears.

The country relaxed entry requirements last month allowing fully-vaccinated tourists to travel freely after a day or quarantine and a negative PCR test taken on arrival. Domestic and international travel - vital for the country's economy - has slowly picked up.

Ministers in Thailand have so far not tightened restrictions despite the emergence of the Omicron variant and rising cases sparking panic in Europe as well as three of the new mutations being found in Covid-positive people in Thailand

Thailand’s first known case of the Omicron variant, a 35-year-old American businessman arriving from Spain and then Dubai on November 29th , was announced on Monday.

The Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Wednesday reported that that a second and third case of the infection have been detected in in two unvaccinated Thai women, who returned to the country from Nigeria on November 24.

Both were in mandatory quarantine upon arrival where they tested positive
