A cafe in Thailand has introduced a cookie-breaking challenge based on the Netflix hit series 'Squid Game' for customers to participate and win prizes.

Customers receive a Dalgona cookie, a Korean street food made from baking soda and sugar, so they can recreate the challenge from the popular TV show at the eatery in Bangkok.

Participants then have to carve the design etched on the honeycomb piece without shattering it. If the players succeed, they will receive a prize. But if the cookie breaks, players will have to pose for a picture with a cat in the cafe and post it on social media.

Footage shows customers at The Fairy Cafe in Bangkok on December 9.

The South Korean Netflix drama Squid Game tells the story of hundreds of participants struggling with debt who compete in a series of children’s games with a gruesome twist to win the final 45.6 billion won (38.7 million USD) prize.

The series was released on September 17 and received an overwhelming response from viewers worldwide but it has also been criticised for showing violence and gore.

Many businesses around the world have run Squid Game style promotions to ride the wave of popularity.
