A Squid Game fan has drawn on the hit TV show for inspiration to shape a unique drone display which took him two months to perfect.

Will Ferguson, 28, used a single drone travelling in a sequence to paint the outlines of a circle, square and triangle into the night-sky.

They represent the team shapes which act as an invitation to contestants in the Netflix horror series, which has hooked fans since appearing on screen this year.

The fictional game show features poverty-stricken characters who compete to win a £27million cash prize.

Will, 28, said: "Squid Game has been so popular and that's wonderful to see. We are so used to watching Hollywood movies that it is really nice to see something different.

"It was an absolute mission to perfect, and it was months of trial and error.

“If even a slight gust of wind came the effect wouldn’t work. Every time the drone finished its sequence we would all gather round the camera to see what the picture looked like. Then we would start again.

“When we looked and saw this one we were absolutely buzzing!"

To perfect the tribute to Squid Game, which stars Korean actors Lee Jung-jae and Park Hae-soo, Will spent two months of nights in woods close to Hertford.

He produced the effect in a similar style to a sparkler, before using a special long exposure camera technique to make sure that all the action was captured perfectly.

Will added: “The field was next to a disused quarry so it was all quite spooky, it was a very cold process and very difficult, but we are so happy with the results.”

Korean-made Squid Game was the most streamed show in the US and the UK when it was released in September 2021.

In each episode, characters take part in bloody versions of traditional children’s games, like Grandmother’s Footsteps, or British Bulldogs, with the winners progressing to the next ‘round’ of the game show.

The losers are executed by a masked death squad standing by with machine guns, leaving many viewers shocked by the excessive violence.
