A fire that broke out at South Africa’s parliament which broke out early on Sunday morning, flared up again in the late afternoon Monday (January 3) despite officials claiming they had brought the blaze under control.

Jermain Carelse, spokesman for the City Of Cape Town’s fire and rescue services said a flare-up occurred just after 5 pm. He said the south Easter wind was making it more challenging to bring the fire under control.

Patricia De Lille, the minister of public works said the ambulance services would share drone footage to show they had the fire under control. De Lille’s department is responsible for maintaining and managing all government assets, parliament included.

As of 10 pm, the fire still hadn’t been brought under control and more reinforcements joined the firefighting teams.
