Lengthy queues were seen in Edinburgh Place, Hong Kong, as residents lined up to test for COVID-19 after the region experienced a spike in daily infections.

Hong Kong's leader Carrie Lam apologised for the huge queues after a record number of cases - 1,161 on February 9.

As the Government appealed for aid from mainland China to expands its test capacity, long queues of people could be seen waiting for testing in Edinburgh Place in Central.

The omicron variant has caused a massive outbreak of COVID-19 in Hong Kong, with the city reporting 1325 contaminations on 11 February 2022.

Huge queues at testing sites could be spotted every day now, under the pressure for residents to get tested if their residence is under a mandatory testing order (224 residences were under such an order on 11 February 2022).
