Hundreds gathered in Sofia Bulgaria to protest against high energy prices
Hundreds gathered in Sofia, Bulgaria, to protest against high energy prices such as electricity, gas, heating, and food under the slogan “Stop the prices genocide” on Monday (February 21).
They ask for the resignation of the ruling Bulgarian government which allegedly seems incapable of taking control over the energy crisis.
The protest was organized by opposition political party 'VMRO' (Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization) who believe that the prime minister and his staff are not working in favor of the national interest. Protestors believe that they are submitted to external interests, under the dictate of foreign Western embassies.
People chanted “Bulgaria”, “Resign” and “Mafia.” They burned their electricity and gas heating bills as a protest against the unbearable standard of life. Banners appealed for the construction of new nuclear power plants, that can liberate the electricity sector and disengage cheaper possibilities.
