Authorities were today still searching for a man who went missing after a tragic bridge collapse that killed six people in southern Thailand.

Officers were looking for Noppadol Malila, who was riding a pickup truck with six other occupants when the bridge they were driving across suddenly gave way in Narathiwat province on February 27.

The pickup truck sank into the river below, which had swollen from torrential downpours in recent days. Six people, including a seven-month-old infant, were found drowned inside but Noppadol's body was nowhere to be found.

The Thai Navy Special Unit Marine Corps launched a search mission on the same day, but reportedly had to stop because of the strong currents. They resumed the operation on February 28.

Despite scouring the river for 48 hours, they still have found no sign of Noppadol.

His brother said: 'Our family is hoping to see him again, no matter what. He was on a shopping trip with his family, but he took a different road after a fallen tree blocked his usual route.'

Flooding from heavy rain has hit several provinces in Thailand’s southern-most region including Narathiwat, Yala, Pattani, Songkhla, and Phattalung, close to the border with Malaysia.

In Malaysia, more than 12,000 residents were displaced as continuous rain caused floods which swamped towns on the peninsula's east coast.
