A powerful thunderstorm blew signs outside a convenience store in Thailand.

Footage shows the extreme weather devastating stalls and carrying away signs while battering the area with heavy rain in Nakhon Ratchasima province on March 8.

Residents were stranded and had to take refuge in shops as the wind and rain was too strong for them to drive or travel home.

Onlooker Tay Suphansa said he hid under a shade to stay away from the rain when an object flew out of nowhere in front of her.

She said: 'It was scary. Luckily nothing flew and hit me. I hope no one else was hurt because of the storm.'

Many areas in Nakhon Ratchasima as well as other provinces - Mukdahan, Roi Et, Yasothon, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani - experienced severe summer storms.

Local officials have started relief operations for affected residents while clearing operations on affected roads are ongoing.
