A terrified resident found a chunky monitor lizard fighting with a python outside his house.

Chakarin Puangsiri heard something rustling on his fence and discovered the two reptiles locked in a fight on his property in Samut Songkhram province, Thailand on March 20.

The huge lizard was seen struggling to move while a smaller but equally fierce snake was coiled around its large body.

Shocked house owner Chakarin said: 'I’ve only seen things like this happening on television. I never thought I’d see something even bigger fighting outside my house.'

Animal rescuers were called on the property and asked to remove the reptiles. Both creatures were taken back to the rescuers' facility to treat their injuries before they were released back into the wild.

No one was reported seriously hurt in the incident.
