Extraordinary moments of spirituality and mystagogy as pilgrims gathered to pray inside a 1600-year-old Roman monument during Orthodox Easter.

Chants in Byzantine Rite can be heard as the ancient monument turned to an Orthodox church for a night and a Divine Liturgy was held on Friday (22/04)

UNESCO World Heritage Site, Rotunda of Thessaloniki, was built in 306 AD by the Roman emperor Galerius, who intended it to be his grave. At first, it worked as a temple but it remains unknown to which god this temple was dedicated. Eventually the Byzantine emperor Constantine I converted it into an Orthodox church and many frescoes were painted inside, some of which survive today on the walls of Rotunda.

The monument rarely functions as a church, only a few days every year and under special permission.
