A farmer in Nashik, Maharashtra, has used 5,600 sarees to keep his grapes in shade amid a heatwave in western India.

Drone footage from April 26 shows the thousands of sarees tied up to protect Prashant Holkar's crop from the intense heat.

Temperatures have reached more than 45 degrees Celsius as a heatwave struck the western Indian state.

Reports have also said Delhi is experiencing its hottest April in 12 years.

India is reeling under severe heatwave , Indian Metrological department had predicted that heat would rise more in coming days . To save his fruit farm from scorching heat a farmer named Prashant Holkar in Maharashtra Nashik's Lasalgaon village came up with a unique idea to save his grapes from Intense heat .
To save his grapes he used near about 5600 colorful sarees to cover 3.5 acre of his farm land . Prashant tells that the temperature this year is high from last years , to save my grapes to get burn i bought 5600 sarees , burning effect ill be less after using these sarees . Talking to local media he told that this year he had to face around 25% loss due to heatwave . Holkar spent more than 1 Lakh rupees to purchase these sarees
