Delhi Police have arrested on Sunday (May 15) Manish Lakra, the owner of an ill-fated building that was gutted in the fire two days ago in the Mundka area.

As many as 27 people were killed in the three-story building following the explosion of an AC device. Some residents reportedly jumped off the windows to escape.

Most deaths took place on the second floor where a motivational speech event was being held according to the preliminary probe.

According to the police, a call about the fire was received at 4:45pm local time on Friday. Hundreds of firefighters battled the blaze and doused the fire at around 10pm local time.

As many as 30 people were killed in a major fire that broke out in a three-story building in the Mundka area of the national capital on Friday evening. The fire started on the first floor of the building that housed the office of a CCTV camera and router manufacturing and assembling company and spread to the other floors. It is suspected that an explosion in an AC may have triggered the fire.

A motivational speech event was being held on the second floor when the fire broke out. Many people were attending this programme. So most deaths took place on this floor, the preliminary probe has indicated.

As many as 40 fire tenders were called in and 35 ambulances were pressed into service for the rescue. The fire personnel battled the fire and doused the fire at around 10 pm and recovered the charred bodies
