PM reports about landslide triggered in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire
This footage was filmed and produced 16 June 2022.
The landslide occurred in Mossikro in the commune of Attécoubé, Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. As of late 16 June, firefighters confirmed 6 people had died and 2 were injured.
The Prime minister of the Côte d'Ivoire and some of the government members have been there to support the victims.
Translation of Prime Minister Patrick Achi's report:
– We have been informed that this rainfall had caused a lot of damage including loss of lives; that's why I and some of the government members are here to inquire about the situation. We constate that there were 6 missing people. Two buddies had been founded and some wounded. What we can say is to transmit to the population and victims the condolences from the President and the government members. We will assure that the wounded will receive rights care.
At the start of the year, the President instructed the technical ministries to hand this. His objective during rainfall season is 0 dead, and 0 wounded. In order to complete this objectif, the ministries in charge have identified 54 risk areas along communes of Abidjan: Anyama, Abobo, Adjame, Attecoubé, Bingerville, Yopougon. About 25 000 people live in the risk areas. Unfortunately, we are here in one of the risk areas. About 2.5 billion Franc CFA have been allotted to destroy those risky areas and relocated the persons who were living there. Despite the resources allocated, those people express resistance to the relocation process. Sometimes, they attack the agent in charge of the process.
In the name of the government, we make a call out to the people who still live in the risky areas. All that we are doing is in their own interest. We want to avoid this kind of disaster so the government will increase its actions about this.
