This is the bizarre moment a rain storm covered only part of the road due to a rare weather phenomenon.

The unusual downpour drenched the concrete surface but stopped going any further in Roxas City, the Philippines on May 30.

Drivers were seen retreating from the heavy downpour and used another route to avoid being wet.

Local Melgazar Orola Mondala said: ‘We were amazed. It happened for the first time here. Our part of the road was dry while there was heavy rain on the other side.

'I think the other drivers were scared of the strange event so they pull over and think twice about whether to drive across it.'

The unusual scene was caused by an extremely rare phenomenon ‘ultra-localized rain' when rain visibly falls over only a certain zone. Experts believe that this phenomenon usually happens in a mountainous region as the steep and high land formation could block the movement of a cloud band.

State weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said a low-pressure area triggered heavy rains in the southern Philippines region.

PAGASA said in a statement: ‘Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely.'

The agency announced the official start of the rainy season on May 18.
