A ferry was stranded with 118 passengers onboard following a storm in Thailand.

The passenger ship was about to dock at Ko Samui Pier in Surat Thani province when it was hit by strong waves on July 5.

It was stuck on a sand ridge and had to be pulled by a tugboat before the passengers and the cars could safely disembark.

Footage shows the grounded ship about 20ft away from the dock while stuck passengers watch outside from the windows.

Ko Samui Sheriff Chayaphon Inthronsupa said: ‘We led officers to help the ship. Harbour officers, police, and rescuers, worked together to find a solution.'

After two hours, the tugboat successfully dragged the ship out of the sand. All 118 passengers were safe and the 69 vehicles that the ship carried were not damaged.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November.
