Crew cuts fishing line to free great white shark from entanglement

Buy video

Brave members of a boat crew free a great white shark from a 30 feet
fishing line trailing from a hook in its mouth.

The person who captured this video said: "The line was wrapped around its fins and was cutting deeply into the shark".

The crew knew from experience that if the line was left to trail behind the animal it would snag on anything the shark passed and cut even more deeply into the animal.

With some patience, they waited for the perfect moment to gaff the line, pull it tight, and quickly cut it short enough not to snag on anything else.

The shark hung around the boat for hours afterwards and then eventually swam off freely and unharmed.
