A disoriented bear cub high on hallucinogenic 'mad honey' was rescued and taken to vet in Turkey.

The juvenile brown bear was spotted passed out next to a hive in a forest in Yigilca district, Duzce on August 11.

It was believed to have gorged on large amounts of ‘mad honey' which causes hallucinations so the concerned farmer carried the creature to his vehicle and rushed to the vets for treatment.

Footage shows the intoxicated bear appearing drunk at the back of the farmer's pickup truck as concerned officials tend to her.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry said in a statement: ‘The bear fainted from eating too much bitter honey but it is now in good condition. It was turned over to the Nature Conservation and National Parks.'

The female cub was named Balkiz by its rescuers, which translated to ‘honey girl' or ‘honey daughter'.

Balkiz reportedly binged on the special honey, also called bitter honey for its pungent taste, after finding the hives that local farmers cultivated in the forest.

Honey seller Ali Ihsan Yazici said: 'This bear had a taste of our special honey. Our honey comes out of komar flower or the forest rose. That's why it is a very special honey.'

Mad honey is from bees that feed on some rhododendron flowers that grow in high altitudes like those around the Black Sea region. It can cause euphoria and lightheadedness and have been used for recreational, medicinal, and military purposes.

However, high doses could cause hallucinations and in rare cases, death, so it's illegal in some countries.
