Very rare footage of hyenas mating in the Maasai Mara, Kenya.
Because of the female hyena's awkward genitalia (they have a pseudo penis), successful mating for hyenas is tricky to pull off. It takes careful positioning for the male to crouch behind her and somehow get his penis to point up and backwards to enter her clitoris. This usually means that mating lasts for tens of minutes over a 3-4 day period. In my many years of photographing wildlife, I have only seen this a handful of times.
