Russian riot police dragged away people they believed to be anti-war protesters standing in a public park in Moscow on Saturday 24 September.

The suspects, who appeared to be standing peacefully in a relatively quiet park, were roughly hauled away by large groups of police officers with batons drawn.

Security forces have cracked down hard on dissent, which has grown sharply, following Russian President Putin's announcement that Russia will draft 300,000 more troops, as the country loses ground in its war in Ukraine.

The government says the troops will be entirely reservists and those with military experience, but reports suggest that some people without such experience are also being drafted, and that some will be sent to the front lines in Ukraine.
