Russian police dragged protesters away from an anti-war rally in Moscow on Saturday 24 September.

The heavy-handed crackdown appeared to target peaceful protesters.

The scenes were filmed at several nearby locations in the Arbat area of the city centre, between around 8 and 9:45am local time.

The protests were against Russia's war in Ukraine and President Putin's recent order to call up 300,000 people to the military.

The Russian government claims only reservists and those with military experience will be called up, but reports suggest that some people with no significant military background are being drafted and that rather than back-filling active-duty soldiers in Russia who have been sent to the front, some conscripts will be sent to Ukraine.

The conscription has prompted many Russians to flee the country.
