Several water buffalo dressed in extravagant outfits were paraded through the streets of Thailand's Chon Buri during this event.

The festival took place on October 9 and featured children riding the bovine that donned sparkling attire.

A race was then held at the end where the buffalo would charge down an open field as spectators cheered them on.

Water buffaloes have been part of Thailand's farming industry for hundreds of years, a common site ploughing rice fields. Since mechanisation largely replaced them many farmers keep them as pets. Racing events are held fairly frequently, this one in Chonburi in Eastern Thailand, with categories for different weights. It's a fun event, with prizes for the healthiest buffalo and even a beauty contest. A long parade opens the race day and travels the city.
