A pub in southwest England is getting ready for the festive season by selling sustainably sourced Christmas trees.

The Prince Albert pub in Stroud, Gloucestershire, shares its name with Queen Victoria's consort, Prince Albert, who introduced the Christmas tree to Britain in the mid-nineteenth century, which had long been a tradition in his native Germany.

Lotte Lyster Connolly, a licensee at the pub, said: "We like doing it because the first Christmas tree came via Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's husband, way back in the 1800s so it just seems right to sell Christmas trees from here.

"We support local businesses by always getting them locally. They're sustainable and it's always a local person selling them."
