Cars drove through colourful Christmas lanterns hanging on trees that looked like they were floating in a tunnel.

Footage shows hundreds of bright lamps dangling over passing motorists at night in Pampanga, the Philippines on November 15.

There were handcrafted decorations in yellow, blue, purple, pink, and red, among others, in various circle and star shapes.

Delighted driver Leslie Carlo Gatus said: 'We were amazed. It was so beautiful. The place is lined with trees in the daytime, and it glows with lanterns at night.'

The Philippines celebrates the festive season of Christmas earlier than most countries, showcasing a distinctive cultural tradition. Families may begin decorating their homes as early as September 1.

Catholicism was introduced to the Philippines by Spanish missionaries in the 16th century, and it quickly became the dominant religion in the country.

Over the centuries, Catholicism has become deeply ingrained in Filipino culture and society. Today, many Filipinos identify as Catholic not only because of their religious beliefs, but also because of their cultural heritage.
