In southwestern China, recently, a scientific research team from Guizhou Normal University and researchers of the reserve first found freshwater sponges in a national nature reserve in Xishui County, Zunyi City of China’s Guizhou Province.

A video filmed on December 5 shows the researchers observing and recording the sponges.

According to Luo Kang, an officer of the Xishui national reserve administration, it is the first record of its presence in this national nature deserve.

Originating from more than 600 million years ago, the sponge is the world’s simplest multi-cellular animal which lives with a high level of water quality.
