Wet weather continued in California Monday after weeks of relentless winter storms caused flooding, mudslides and damage across the state.

The state has seen widespread flooding as a series of atmospheric rivers brought multiple bouts of heavy rain and snow.

President Joe Biden on Saturday approved a major disaster declaration in California, authorizing federal assistance for response and recovery efforts.

The disaster declaration makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Merced, Sacramento, and Santa Cruz counties.

Biden previously approved an emergency declaration in 17 affected counties.

The ongoing storms have resulted in at least 20 fatalities and forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of residents, according to a Monday statement from the office of Gov. Gavin Newsom.
