A tiger died after being attacked by three lions at a zoo in southern China.

Video filmed at Yibin Wild Animal World in Sichuan Province on January 18 shows three lions surrounding a tiger laying on the ground, while zoo keepers repeatedly sounded a vehicle's horn.

The relevant department confirmed that the tiger died at night on January 18. The animals were reportedly raised in the free range area in the wildlife park the lions and tigers were separated in different enclosures.

According to Preliminary understanding, the incident was caused by the animal "crossing the boundary".

Yibin Wildlife World announced that the Siberian tiger free-range area has been suspended.

Some netizens questioned why tigers and lions were kept in the same area. However, the wildlife park staff said it is common in zoos across the country.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
