A truck carrying ethanol overturned and burst into flames on a motorway in Thailand on Tuesday evening January 24

The 18-wheel vehicle was travelling through Prachinburi province when it crashed at around 8:30 pm local time.

Fire crews took around an hour to bring the inferno under control as cars queued in long traffic jams stretching several miles.

The shaken driver, who escaped unharmed, told police that he was travelling from Nakhon Ratchasima Province to deliver to a factory in Rayong province, in the east of the country.

Officers are now investigating the accident.

Police Captain Tiphon Wadsuwaneron said: 'From questioning the driver, we know the truck was shaking and he lost control of it before crashing.

'It overturned in the middle of the road, slipping on the ground, sparking and a blaze. The driver escaped from the cabin before being burned.'
