Street barbers work in open hair salons built under a bridge in a slum in Bangkok.

Footage shows the dingy stalls, along with other shops that sold assorted goods such as plants, potteries, weaved baskets, and food, occupying the space under a Phra Khanong bridge in Thailand.

A trim costs just 40 Baht (1GBP) but the barbers take meticulously cair - sometimes spending up to 30 minutes on each customer.

Lao Jongkammun, 49, said he had been giving haircuts at the modest spot for almost two decades when he shifted work as a chicken porter at a nearby market.

He said: ‘I have been giving haircuts under the Khanong bridge for 17 years. I worked as a chicken porter but as the bird flu hit, I had less work at the market so I began my apprenticeship as a barber.'

Lao trained and received a certificate to work professionally as a barber and built his own shop.

He said: ‘There were malls and theatres that drove people here. Many barbers set up shop because of the crowd of people.

‘The special thing about my place is that I also provide customers with refreshing towels, special brows and facial hair cut too.'
