Police exonerated amid intense use-of-force controversy in Jacksonville
Footage filmed on Tuesday, March 14, and released on March 21 shows police officers detaining a suspect in Jacksonville, Florida.
A Florida Sheriff's Office has cleared its officers from accusations of use of excessive force and declared their actions to be lawful after numerous citizens raised concerns.
Sheriff Waters was informed by worried citizens about the use of force by Jacksonville Sheriff's officers.
Following the notification, the Sheriff, senior staff members, and the Professional Oversight Unit reviewed available reports and body-worn camera footage related to the incident.
After a thorough examination, the administration concluded that the officers involved did not violate Florida law or Jacksonville Sheriff's Office policy.
The agency is sensitive to the community's concerns regarding police use of force and, in line with its commitment to openness and transparency, has publicly released the relevant body-worn camera footage today.
