A choking orange haze clouded an airport in Laos as agricultural burning continues in Southeast Asia.

Footage shows an plane landing at the Luang Prabang Airport tarmac amid the thick mist on April 10. Swiss air monitor gave the country a ranking of 157 with 68 micrograms per cubic metre of PM2.5 particles in the air - more than 13 times the safe levels recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The airport is located near northern Thailand, which has been branded a 'disaster zone' due to hazardous levels of PM2.5 dust in recent months.

Unhealthy air pollution has been plaguing Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia, as farmers engage in seasonal slash-and-burn farming.

The lack of wind and rain during the same period, combined with a winter low-pressure system in which cold air is trapped closer to the ground by warm air above, prevent the smog from being dispersed naturally by wind.
