This is the dramatic moment roofs were ripped from homes during a violent storm in Malaysia.

The roof of Fazrul Adam Zambri's house collapsed after powerful winds struck during heavy rainfall in Kuala Kangsar, Perak.

Footage shows a sheet of metal torn from the property and hurled onto the roadside as gale-force winds battered the area on September 23.

Fazrul can be heard gasping in shock as he realised the debris came from his own home.

The storm reportedly swept through the region, leaving houses and vehicles heavily damaged.

In Kuala Lumpur, parts of the Stadium Negara roof were torn off by the violent gusts, while the Plaza Sentral signage on top of a commercial building was dislodged and fell to the ground.

Malaysia is currently experiencing La Nina conditions, bringing heavier rainfall and wetter weather across the country.

The northeast monsoon is also forecast to deliver strong winds and heavy downpours until March next year.

The National Climate Centre said that Malaysia remains at the tail-end of the southwest monsoon.

Fredolin Tangang, a climate expert at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, said: 'Both the monsoon and La Nina bring more moisture into the region, which can fuel heavy rain and storms.

'Meanwhile, the typhoon over the northern South China Sea can generate stronger winds which can also cause heavy rain over places like Sabah's west coast.'
