Aldi is selling Lurpak in security netting to prevent cost-of-living crisis thefts
Aldi is selling Lurpak in security netting to prevent thefts amid cost-of-living crisis.
The 600g tubs of butter are now priced at £5.35 at the budget supermarket chain.
Shopper Stefani Nurding was stunned when she saw it.
She said: “What the f*ck.”
This comes after food prices had risen consistently over the course of the last year.
Although overall inflation is expected to fall in 2023, the government has said food price inflation is expected to remain high in the short term.
However, many people have responded wondering how Aldi can afford the extra protection but have still let the price soar.
Stefani filmed it in the store in Kidbrooke, south east London.
One local said “Lurpak is going crazy, £5.35 for some butter?”
Another added: “They can afford the extra protection, but can’t reduce the price.”
One person added “I’ve seen shops do this with 470ml cans of Redbull.
“The sad reality is such items are stolen frequently and this is how stores can protect their stock.”
Another said “They’re €6.92 here in the Netherlands, but we don’t keep them hostage.”
Aldi has declined to comment.
