Popular Thai street food seller wears traditional clothes for Songkran festival
Footage shows a popular Thai street food seller wearing traditional silk clothes to mark the country's annual Songkran festival.
Khun Puy, 32, was ordered by officials to clear her cart from the pavement but she has continued cooking her popular roti pancakes along the busy walkway in the vibrant Silom area of Bangkok, Thailand.
Today Puy wore a stunning Thai silk outfit with gold jewellery to mark the country's Buddhist water fight festival, which sees locals douse each other with water to bring prosperity for the year ahead.
She said: 'I don't dress like this every day, it's just for Songkran. I'm getting into the spirit of the celebrations. I will have to pack away my food stall for a few days until the water fights are finished.'
Puy gained popularity among tourists as the 'prettiest roti seller in Bangkok.' Hundreds of locals and tourists now visit her stall every day to taste her crispy pandan roti which costs 35 THB (around one USD).
She said he father had been selling in the same spot for 20 years but had to pass down his business to his daughter due to deteriorating health.
Puy left her factory job and took over the street snack roti business in 2017.
She said: ‘I prepare and travel for hours to make roti in this spot. I have responsibilities and I have people to take care of.
'I told the officers that I will adapt my stall to make it easier for the pedestrians. But I was shocked to find a big potted plant had been placed on the sidewalk to try and block me from selling.'
