Outrage as Chinese woman films dance video at site of fire to gain social media attention
A woman has been reprimanded by authorities in China after she was caught filming a dance video against the backdrop of a raging fire at a construction site.
The video was filmed in the city of Yuncheng in Shanxi Province on April 11.
The incident occurred at around 7pm and the woman subsequently uploaded the video to her Douyin (Chinese TikTok) account.
Officials from the Yuncheng City Internet Information Office launched an investigation into the matter, citing concerns that the woman may have been exploiting the disaster for personal gain and to drive traffic to her social media account.
In response to the investigation, the woman, identified only as Wang, was ordered to take down the offending content and was banned from posting any new material for a period of seven days.
Following her meeting with officials, Wang expressed regret for her actions, admitting that her decision to film the video was inappropriate and went against the principles of responsible social media use.
The video has sparked a heated debate among netizens. One person commented, “ Does anyone really watch this kind of video?”
Another netizen said: “The punishment is too light, we need relevant laws and regulations to restrain online influencers and live streamers.”
The video was provided by local media with permission.
