Phulia, is a small town in the Santipur CD block of the Ranaghat subdivision in the Nadia district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is famous for its handloom saree manufacturing art. Saree is a traditional dress for women in India. Currently, Traditional Handloom saree making is almost extinct nowadays in Phulia due to the financial crisis the weavers faced after the coronavirus outbreak and the increase in the usage of modern automated power loom machines. Gradually, the traditional handloom weavers are shifting professions to other earning sources and the art is almost extinct. Govt has also not taken any kind of initiatives or issues schemes for the weavers to preserve the ancient traditional art form. Only a few weavers aremaking handloom sarees now for earning their bread and butter but the next generation is already into other job profiles.
