Video shows animals at Vienna's Schoenbrunn Zoo receiving fresh branches and twigs from Austrian Federal Forests in April 2023.
The Indian rhinos were the first to taste the spring treats, delivered by the forest rangers from nearby Wienerwald.
The OeBf has agreed to provide fresh beech, oak, willow, birch, ash, and maple to the zoo every week during the timber harvest period from April to October.
The zoo's director, Stephan Hering-Hagenbeck, expressed happiness over the cooperation. The approach aims to diversify the zoo residents' menu and provide them with bushes and branches all year round.
