A group of cyclists paused during their race - abandoning any chance to wind - to save a dog from a landslide.

Weraphong Wisuth and his friends were striving to finish the grueling 200km distance Audax competition when they saw locals shouting for help in Prachin Buri province, Thailand on April 9.

The bikers went closer to the area where there seemed to be an ongoing construction before they spotted the pooch stuck under dried-up mud.

Footage shows the exhausted creature with half its body submerged on the ground. All five of them stayed in the area and called for assistance.

Weraphong said: ‘We called the race organiser. We were given an additional two hours but what's more important to us that time was to save the dog.'

Despite the 13-hour deadline of the long-distance race, the group lingered until an excavator was used to dig heavy lumps of soil off the dog. The pooch was later freed but the cyclists were running out of race time.

Weraphong added: ‘We helped them contact a veterinarian but as it could run around, we thought it was only tired. We then left and continued with the race.'
