Police shows an altar dedicated to Santa Muerte found in a tunnel in Cuautepec de Hinojosa, Mexico, undated. Police detained ten people in the operation.
A 'satanic' altar has been found in a secret tunnel used by petrol thieves to siphon off fuel from pipelines in Mexico.
Images show the tunnel during the raid, along with the effigy of Baphomet, a deity that is well-known in Western occultism and Satanism.
In Mexico, it is often associated with Santa Muerte, according to local media, which is a mixture of Catholicism and Mexican neopaganism that is often labelled "satanic" in local media.
Around the shrine, gang members left offerings of food and drink to ask for the deity's blessing in their crooked enterprise.
The footage shows officers following pipes to storage tanks. They said that 38,000 litres of stolen fuel were recovered.
Police also seized qualities of the highly addictive drug crystal meth and what they believe to be bundles of marijuana.
