This funeral was for the sister go my girl friend's mum. The mum died a few days later and was cremated in a crematorium in a temple. The procession from the house to the burning area was about 3 KM in very hot sunshine. The relatives and monks walk in front of the car carrying the coffin and hold onto a rope. This is tradition here. Finally the coffin is laid to rest on a large stack of logs and set alight. Just before this family members and close friends pour coconut juice over the body. This is because the believe coconut juice is very clean and pure so a good way to prepare her for the next life. Although I had met the lady many times, I did not want to peer inside the coffin. The music they played for the funeral procession is very sad and makes one want to cry. I learned later that this exact music is played at other funeral possessions. To my surprise they take group photos of family members in front of the coffin, I think this is not done in other countries.
