Kyiv distributes footage purporting to show detonations at major dam in southern Ukraine
The wall of southern Ukraine's Kakhovka dam and hydroelectric power plant collapsed on Tuesday, June 6.
This footage, which was distributed by the Ukrainian government, shows a detonation appearing to be carried out in the area of the plant. The filmer, the identity of whom cannot be confirmed, can be seen pulling away from the explosion and hiding behind a building.
Ukraine has blamed the Russian army, which occupies the area, for the explosion but intense fighting between the two forces was reported along the frontline.
According to the Russian state-owned news agency RIA, the water level is already up by five metres. 16,000 people are at risk from the floodwaters.
