STORYLINE:

Foreign exhibitors attending a wine-themed international conference and an expo in Yinchuan, northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, said that they expect closer cooperation with China in wine industry.

The two-day International Conference on Grape and Wine Industries and the third China (Ningxia) International Wine Culture and Tourism Expo, which concluded on Saturday, gathered representatives in the wine-making industry from over 30 countries and four international organizations.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): PETER, Italian exhibitor
"I think this is a very good opportunity. I hope to learn about local wines (in Ningxia). Meanwhile, I want to promote our Italian wine cutlure. Owners and winemakers of local wineries in Ningxia shared information and (their) wine culture with us, and we have many opportunities to communicate with local people as well. China's economy is getting better and better. We've participated in many exhibitions this year. There are a lot of importers and agents looking for cooperation with (foreign) wineries. I think it is a very good opportunity."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): KONSTANTINOS, Greek exhibitor
"Today, we visit the exhibition in Ningxia. We are very happy to be here in order to understand about Chinese wine-making, and in order for our company to promote and give the consumers the opportunity to taste the Greek wines."

Ningxia boasts a unique terroir for making top-class wine, with its prolonged sunshine and a cool, dry climate aiding the cultivation of grapes.

After more than 40 years of development, Ningxia has emerged as China's largest wine-producing region. It now has 228 wineries and grape-growing enterprises, which produced 138 million bottles of wine in 2022.
