SOUNDBITE (Russian): IGOR BUTMAN, Artistic Director of Moscow International Jazz Festival
"A lot of jazz music was created precisely based on the theme of Russian folk songs or songs of the peoples of the Soviet Union. This began to develop, and in the 1970s, jazz finally received the status of professional groups, when many bands emerged."
The 2nd Moscow International Jazz Festival is hosted by the Butman Foundation.
During the festival, jazz tunes are heard in Moscow's major tourist attractions including Zaryadye, Muzeon Art Park, Hermitage Garden, and VDNH (The Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy) among others.
The week-long event will conclude on Sunday.
