Thailand's first cashless and unmanned 'smart' convenience store has been launched.

The 30sqm Lotus's Pick & Go by True Digital branch - a collaboration between the Lotus's and True Digital companies - was inaugurated at Lotus's North Ratchaphruek in Nonthaburi province on July 3.

The AI-powered store is said to use 'RetailTech technology and True Virgo AI' to provide a smoother experience for shoppers.

Customers can simply scan their QR code on the TrueMoney Wallet mobile application, select items, then walk out of the store. The expenses are automatically deducted from their accounts.

Lotus's Pick & Go contains around 400 products, mainly snacks, beverages, and daily necessities.

Monchai Intarapornudom, Senior Director for Operations Development at Lotus's, said: 'Lotus's is moving forward to develop its business in every aspect to provide superior experiences with the launch of a new branch and renovation of existing branches to better suit customers' lifestyles in each area.'

Ekaraj Panjavinin, Chief Digital Officer at True Corporation Plc, added: 'We aim to unlock the limitations of store management and help retailers handle their challenges, from complex and incompatible operating systems, labour management, to increasing the capabilities to analyse consumer's behaviours and insights to develop marketing strategy and enhance their business opportunities with deep and precise understanding of consumer's needs.'
