This is the rare moment two Asian black bears we seen wrestling for dominance in front of shocked tourists.

The fearsome beasts were locked in a fierce battle, tumbling in the tall grass at the Khao Yai National Park in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, on July 12.

Footage shows how the adult male bears bared their sharp fangs and fiercely swiped their claws at each other. They growled as they stood on their hind legs, with one bear eventually conceding and retreating into the forest.

Khao Yai National Park staff said the bears likely fought over territory or food. They said it was rare for the bears to search for food during the rainy season.

Officials warned tourists to keep a safe distance from wild animals should they encounter them in the park.

The Asian black bear has rough fur that is predominantly black or brown throughout its body, except for its chest, which features a distinct V-shaped patch of light yellow colour. The bear has longer fur on its shoulders and neck region.

Asian black bears are have large ears and are able to walk fully on their feet, with their footprints smaller than an average human's.

They are categorised as a protected wild animal under the Wild Animal Conservation and Protection Act of Thailand.
