This is the moment a wild vulture groomed itself in front of a security camera in California.

The flying scavenger was spotted perched next to ALERTCalifornia's surveillance device at Atlas Peak in the Napa Valley on July 13.

Footage shows the bird nipping at its feathers as it observed the landscape from above.

The California Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit said: 'There has been an additional lookout on ALERTCalifornia's Atlas Peak camera.'

ALERTCalifornia replied: 'That's our latest vulture observer technology.'
