A giant sculpture of Bumblebee from the Transformers franchise has been built at an intersection in Bangkok, Thailand.

The futuristic yellow mecha was installed by the Samphanthawong District Office along Yaowarat Road in Bangkok's Chinatown area in July.

Wanlop Kiattiworasrikul, Samphanthawong district chief, said that the statue was created as a new street attraction using automotive parts and scrap metal sourced from locals in Yaowarat.

Surrounded by orange bollards, the 10ft statue is fast becoming a popular Instagram spot for tourists, who flock to the junction to take pictures of the iconic Autobot.

Wanlop said an informative sign in different languages will later be installed at the base of the figure.

Bumblebee is a fictional robot character appearing in the Transformers franchise. The character is a member of the Autobots, a group of sentient, self-configuring, modular extraterrestrial robotic lifeforms.
