A bizarre Buddhist statue resembling the green aliens from the Pixar film 'Toy Story' has been unveiled in Thailand.

The 79ft sculpture of Sihuhata - a four-eared, five-eyed deity believed to bring prosperity - stood on the 2.4-acre Subinnimit Foundation compound in Nonthaburi province, on the outskirts of the capital Bangkok.

Towering on a pile of gold coins, the god bore an uncanny likeness to the 1995 animated film's 'Little Green Men'.

Subin Nanathong, the organisation's founder, said that he was a former Buddhist monk who left the order because he dabbled in spells and incantations.

One of his disciples had generously donated the land to him, which he used to establish the foundation and erect the Sihuhata statue.

Thousands of devotees have since visited the shrine, bringing offerings of black coal - said to be Sihuhata's food - hoping it would bring them financial wealth, and success in their careers.

Subin said that the statue is still being completed, with two serpentine nagas yet to be built near its base.

He said the foundation was open every day from 9 am to 6 pm to accommodate tourists wishing to pay homage to Sihuhata.

The unveiling comes just a week after a 'devil-worship gargoyle' statue sparked panic in Bangkok.

The 13ft occult deity Khru Kai Kaeo statue - with scarlet talons and black wings - terrified residents as it sat outside The Bazaar Hotel in the capital.

Locals had complained they were 'gripped by fear' upon seeing the menacing god. Worshippers had also called for ritual animal sacrifices to be made to Khru Kai Kaeo for good luck.
