Dozens of people compete for food and money in a unique "worshiping the soul" worship ceremony in Vietnam

Worshiping the soul is the act of competing for offerings by the owner after the offering is completed on the full moon of the 7th lunar month. Often called "Amnesty for the Dead" day.

According to Vietnamese folklore, the seventh lunar month is also known as the soul month. Because during this time, the gates of hell are opened, the ghosts and hungry ghosts will be free to walk on earth.

In order to avoid being harassed by the devil, as well as to generate merit and create merit, Vietnamese families and businesses often conduct sacrifices for the dead.

Through this ceremony, the ghosts will receive food, money to travel to perform their work with the hope of being liberated and reincarnated as a human.

The ceremony usually includes:Money, change, popcorn, boiled potatoes, cakes, sweets, boiled chicken...

These are the foods offered to the hungry souls. This process of fighting for food is called worship soul.

It is believed that the more people come to compete for food, the more families and businesses grow.
